- Halyk bank is well known for it’s philanthropic projects. What are the main areas of charity activity?
- Core areas of sponsorship and charity activities of our bank over the past years have been projects aimed to support orphans and children with disabilities and veterans.
Regionally the republic branch of JSC “Halyk bank of Kazakhstan” provided corporate assistance to child care institutions upbringing of children deprived of parental care and children with disabilities.
- Your bank is engaged in charity by call of the heart or forced to do it? Does the bank has special unit that deals only with charity?
- What do you think: can anyone be forced to kindness, sympathy, compassion and love? This are moral categories, combined with such a moral criterion as “humanity”. So the answer to this question is unequivocal - the bank, its employees, primarily guided by the call of the heart.
Generally speaking, sponsorship and charity activities of the bank is under the department of public relations and marketing. In this case, the decision to participate in a particular social project taken collectively - at a meeting of the board.
And last but not least - the provision of charity and sponsorship of the bank is carried on a sustained basis. For organizing sponsorship and charity policy in august 2006 the bank’s management has adopted a program about main directions of sponsorship activities and the provision of charity care of JSC “Halyk bank of Kazakhstan”. The bank conducts systematic charity events in which our employees are involved.
- Tell us about your future plans for sponsorship and philanthropy.
- We plan to continue work on implementing a number of social trends identified by the bank.
Let me give some concrete examples. Since 2005 our bank is financing a social project “National league” by creating an active basketball movements. The main goal of this project is to educate the sport active generation of young Kazakhstan people, Promoting healthy lifestyles and funny use of leisure time among the inmates of the sponsored children homes and boarding schools.
The project is about equipping childcare institutions with sport inventory, uniform, selection and payment to the coaching staff. During the school year project participants have the opportunity to train under the guidance of professional coaches of basketball. The outcome of this trainings is an annual tournament provided in May called “Cup of hope”. Organization of the tournament is held with the participation of the national basketball federation of Kazakhstan with the participation of judges of national and international categories. The bank is the general sponsor of the project covers the costs associated with the travel of children and escorts, accommodation (lodging and meals) of the participants, the purchase of the prize fund for the winners of the tournament, pays to judicial personnel.
In 2010 the “Halyk bank of Kazakhstan” organized 6th Republican tournament “Cup of hope 2010” held in sanatorium “Pine forest” (Sherbakovo village, Kostanai region.), which brought together 160 young athletes to compete for the title of the best.
In the following year on May the 7th tournament game begins. They will be held at Borovoi of Akmola region.
- Does Halyk bank has program for studying?
- Of course under a special charity program “National students” and with the support of the “Halyk bank of Kazakhstan” 46 young citizens of our country got higher education. All of them - raised in orphanages and boarding schools from different regions of the country.
This program started on September 2007. Under the terms of the program the specialists that have demonstrated a high level of knowledge and the desire to get education in various institutions of the republic to become fellows of the “Halyk bank”. In 2010 the bank made fourth set of fellows. Newly students became 11 children from orphanages. All of these guys and girls in accordance with the terms of the social program are included in the database of prospective reserve of “Halyk bank of Kazakhstan” and after passing the final exams in high school may be eligible for the prestigious and highly paid work in the structural units of the bank.
Throughout the study period in addition to tuition students were paid with scholarship named “Kozhahan Abenov”. Monthly students scholarship is 10 000 tenge and for those who enrolled for a grant - 15 000 tenge.
As part of the approved social project “Marathon of Victory” annually dedicated to the “Victory day” bank provides assistance to veterans organizations in the country, as well as to veterans of the second world war - the depositors of the bank. So this year during the month “Halyk bank of Kazakhstan” customers - World War 2 veterans were able to free serviced by major types of payments and services.
Projects in general abound. And it is very unfortunate that the results of such a colossal work media prefer not to cover considering it as advertising.
- We know that you often help a charity foundation “AYALA” in the implementation of various projects. Why did you choose this foundation?
- Really now there are a lot of charity organizations. We selected foundations by their approach to philanthropy. I must say that experts of “AYALA” foundation are not just contribute in helping for example to medical units they do so thoughtfully and reasonably. Study the need, the level of necessary contribution. Equipment that is purchased with the assistance of sponsors may be useful to many people in need.
By participating in the projects the charity foundation “AYALA” Bank has transferred funds to purchase medical equipment for payment free sections of Perinatal center in Almaty and National Scientific Center of Surgery after name of “Syzganov” as well as for the project “Health of the nation” begins from maternity hospitals” to install 32 sets of phototherapy devices in the maternity departments of the Almaty region.
- What principles guide you in selecting charity projects?
- All these principles are set out and approved by the board of our bank program on the main areas of sponsorship and the provision of charity care “Halyk bank of Kazakhstan”. Appropriate sponsorship and the provision of charity assistance, transparency and fairness in decision-making efficiency and effectiveness of sponsorship activities and the provision of charity care, consistency and continuity of sponsorship activities and the provision of charity care.
In addition the sponsorship and the provision of charity care is not given to religious, political and commercial organizations and we do not operate in the social sphere.
- What gives you and to your bank employees involvement in philanthropy?
- We are all human creatures. And I think a few of us can calmly treat others tragedy. Especially when it is children. We are pleased that the majority of our employees do not remain indifferent in such situations.
So in April 2009 was held charity event dedicated to help to special boarding school № 2 in Almaty for children with disorders of the musculoskeletal apparatus. With efforts of management and employees of the bank were collected 544,500 tg. to the sponsorship budget of the bank. On the funds collected were acquired modern fitness equipment and sports equipment for physical development of children. Also, last year, was organized and held a charity event to help pupils of specialized complex “Zhanuya”. Pupils were presented with a dishwasher, 100 sports costumes and candy, acquired through the collection of funds from the management and employees of the bank.
On April 2010, was held event of planting trees, purchased with the funds of the bank in the special boarding school № 2 of Almaty. Planted trees bank staff.
Among other activities - charity event dedicated to the 1st of June(International children’s day), on 1st of September (day of knowledge) and the new year: assistance was provided to various institutions, including: a family-type children house NUR (Talgar city) children anti tuberculosis sanatorium № 1 (Almaty), child care institution “Kovcheg” (Talgar city).
- Bank and its staff have assisted villagers of Kyzyl-Agash almaty region affected by floods on march this year. What specific help got affected people?
- Bank staff collected for this purpose more than half a million tenge, The bank allocated 10 million tenge to affected people. Such assistance made by “Halyk bank of Kazakhstan” regularly. In 2008, the bank has provided charity assistance to flood victims in south Kazakhstan region in amount 10 million tenge and 10 million tenge was allocated for earthquake consequences in west Kazakhstan region.
It is very important that our Bank is interested in developing city development projects. So in 2008 the Bank provided sponsorship for New Alatau of 10 million tenge for arranging the newly formed district of Almaty. And last year gave charity assistance in the amount of 1,000,000 (one million) tenge for the construction of houses affected by flooding in Shanyrak district.
In general I would like to note that the “Halyk bank of Kazakhstan” will continue to adhere to the principles of social responsibility by helping to socially disadvantaged populations within our philanthropic and sponsorship programs.
