On October 4, the world celebrates Animal Day. To honour the date, pupils of the Almaty regional boarding school No.15 for children from low-income families went for a zoo tour. The tour was arranged with the support of the AYALA Charity Foundation.

23 first-graders have learned how many species of cats live on our planet, what birds eat and how much time a day giraffes give to a sleep. Also the children have seen new houses, which were constructed this year for bears and Amur tigers.

For two hours the children were carefully listening to the stories of the guide and were trying to repeat the movements of the animals they liked. The children were delighted the most with giraffes, pumas, rhinoceroses, bears and the elephant named Aruzhan.

A teacher of the first grade Sagdat Kaskarauova highlighted that such events were very important for the education of children.

"Children from rural areas study at our school and not everyone has the opportunity to visit the zoo. Thanks to the AYALA fund the students of our boarding school have visited other cultural events, for example, the concert of Dmitry Malikov and cartoon showings," the teacher said.

In its turn, the fund is expressing its gratitude to the management of the Almaty Zoo for cooperation and assistance in organizing the tour.

World Animal Day was established at the International convention of the supporters of the Movement for the nature protection, held in 1931 in Florence (Italy). The event is set to draw humans’ attention to the problems of other inhabitants of the planet.
