An audiometer was presented to a special boarding school for children with hearing impairment in Karaganda. The cost of the medical equipment is 2.5 million tenge.

An audiometer is a device for determining hearing acuity or its impairment. It was purchased in the framework of the project called ‘Special attention to special children’. This project is aimed at helping special (correctional) boarding schools for children with vision, hearing, speech impairment and intellectual development disorder.

There are 162 children at the boarding school with lifelong hearing impairment. 110 children are hard of hearing, 52 are deaf. There are some students from socially vulnerable families, there are also orphans.

The main activity of the boarding school is the development of auditory perception, the formation of pronunciation, the improvement of the quality of children’s living and their socialization.

Children, who use hearing aids or cochlear implants, should be constantly monitored by audiologists. When using implants, audiometry is performed once a month during the initial period of rehabilitation, and once every 2-3 months thereafter. Children with hearing aids are also prescribed to regular hearing tests.

A part of the funds for the purchase of the equipment - 1,000,000 tenge – was collected by participants of Astana-Marathon 2018. In particular, the corporate team of Private Banking ATF Bank JSC and Kamkor Management LLP. The remaining amount was allocated by Samsung Electronics Central Eurasia.

President of AYALA Charity Foundation Aidan Suleimenova noted: “Currently charity is most developed in Almaty and Astana. Our foundation, as a part of the mission to develop the culture and tradition of charity in Kazakhstan, seeks to cover the regions. The audiometer that we are transmitting today, can significantly improve the social prospects of students of the special school of Karaganda. ”
