11-11-2011 «I see the World»

On November, 11th, 2011 in a conference hall of the Almaty City Perinatal Centre (CPC)...

On November, 11th, 2011 in a conference hall of the Almaty City Perinatal Centre (CPC), we handed over to this obstetric aid institution a digital wide-field retinal chamber within the framework of the project «I see the World».

According to ophthalmologist of the City Perinatal Centre the rate of retinopathy of prematurely born children in 2008 was 26 %, and in 2009 it was already 27, 3 %. A retinopathy of prematurely born is a principal cause of children's blindness and impaired vision. The increase of this disease and further complications happen due to its late diagnostics. In Russia, there are eight big neonatal centres which have similar devices. The Russian doctors work on this pathology for 15 years. And according to last information in such cities as Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and even Kaluga, the heavy forms of retinopathy leading to blindness aren't encountered any more for last 2 years. It happened because the diagnostics of the disease of prematurely born infants is well adjusted. Before present time in our country now a retinal chamber was only in Astana. Now early diagnostics of a retinopathy will be possible for inhabitants of Almaty region as well. The project «I see the World» have been invented in 2010 and administration of CPC has been eagerly interested in getting retinal chambers. There is a special room for this purpose where the chamber will be installed and the room could be observed from the inside and outside. It will allow to examine not only patients of CPC, but also children from other medical institutions. In the world market the similar retinal chamber is offered at the price of 29 000 000 KZT, but the factory-manufacturer Clarity Medical Systems from USA has taken into consideration that our welfare fund is interested to purchase this device and after negotiations with the company management a discount was made for us and we have got a retinoscope for 12 140 000 KZT. We are pleasantly surprised that manufacturers of the medical equipment from the developed countries willingly participate in charity, and especially we are pleased that our Kazakhstan suppliers of the goods and services even more often follow the lead the of their western colleagues.

In our presence ophthalmologist examined a girl recently born in CPC who was prematurely born. Such children are included particularly into group of risk of development of retinopathy. Fortunately for mother of the girl, and also for doctors and employees of our foundtion now the condition of retina of both eyes of the child doesn't inspire fears.

It is remarkable that solemn ceremony of handover of the certificate for this expensive ophthalmologic diagnostic complex was held on November, 11th, 2011 at 11 o'clock 11 minutes. And though owing to our medical education and education we aren't apologists of pseudo-scientific disciplines such as numerology, but such coincidence should inspire us with confidence of success, after all 11.11.11 (date) and 11:11 (time) can repeat only in 100 years on November, 11th, 2111.
