The professional specialists from Lithuania held a week of seminars and training courses for Almaty doctors – neonatologists, obstetricians and nurses from obstetric institutions. The doctor of medical sciences, chief of the children’s hospital department of Vilnius medical university Arunas Lyubshis and nurse Inessa Subotovich told about specific features of the work. The teaching seminars were held on the basis of Almaty center of perinatology and children’s cardio surgery.

The Lithuanian doctors were invited by the charity foundation “AYALA” and “Chevron” company. On the training courses the information about peculiarities of taking care, proper treatment and feeding of infants, including children with extremely low weight of body was presented. Furthermore, the Lithuanian and Kazakh colleagues discussed the questions concerning preventive measures and treatment of children’s bacterial and fungal sepsis, maintenance of infant’s normal body temperature and many other issues.

As the director of Center of perinatology and children’s cardio surgery Elmira Zhakasheva reported, last year Arunas Lyubshis arrived to Almaty perinatal center with the aim to exchange experience. The training courses sank in. In the result of conducted seminars the doctors managed to decrease the infants’ death rate in two times. The specialists hope that this time the professional development will also lead to definite results.

During last 10 years Arunas Lyubshis as an expert of WHO/UNICEF conducted a lot of seminars and lectures in the CIS countries. The center of neonatology which is administered by Arunas Lyubshis was founded in 1991. In this institution the good results in decreasing the perinatal death rate among infants and babies, physical disability from childhood were also achieved. On the meeting with Kazakhstan medical specialists the guest from Lithuania noted that the foundation of their practical activity is a team work. That is the exact reason why a nurse Inesa Subotovich also arrived with him.  According to the words of Arunas Lyubshis, teaching doctors is one case but when dealing with the infant baby we need to have a whole team. Namely the nurse spends 90% of time near the patient’s bed. It is of great importance to have mutual understanding between nurse and doctor. On this basis the teaching of doctors should be conducted in parallel with the teaching of nurses, - added the Lithuanian doctor.
