A hospital-acquired infection (a nosocomial infection) is one of the main causes of death and severe complications in children's departments of maternity hospitals, perinatal centers and children's hospitals. The reasons and ways to solve this problem were discussed during a training conference for neonatologists and neonatologists-resuscitators. The event took place from May 27 to May 29, 2019 at the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery in Almaty.
According to the Congress of Neonatologists, today this problem is particularly acute in the intensive care units and intensive care of newborns. Due to the peculiarities of development and accompanying pathologies, this category of children needs a large number of long-term invasive manipulations. As a result there is an increased risk of developing infections associated with medical care.
“To solve the problem of nosocomial infections it is necessary to know the contributing factors, preventive measures and timely criteria for its diagnosis. Unfortunately, despite a significant reduction in infant mortality over the period of the independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, at the moment preventive measures for the prevention of nosocomial infections are still not clearly formed. Therefore, educational programs and exchange of experience will improve the quality of care for newborns,” said the head of the Congress of Neonatologists Bekturgan Karin.
The event was attended by the chief visiting neonatologists of the regions, deputy chief doctors for neonatal service, heads and doctors of the departments of resuscitation, of pathologies of newborns and of premature babies nursing of regional and city perinatal centers, children's hospitals. Clinical protocols for the bacterial sepsis and the prevention of nosocomial infections were discussed.
The lectures were given by Russian neonatologists, the heads of the resuscitation units Alexander Lee (St. Petersburg) and Andrey Averin (Chelyabinsk). The speakers from Kazakhstan were Doctors of Medicine, professors Tamara Chuvakova, Riza Boranbayeva and the head of the Congress of Neonatologists Bekturgan Karin.
The sponsorship of the conference was provided by Chevron Company, which for many years supported educational projects of AYALA Charity foundation in the fields of children's medicine.
“Almost from the first days of our work in Kazakhstan, and the partnership of Chevron Company with the republic counts more than 26 years, we support the country's medical institutions, implement international standards and introduce the best international practices to local specialists. This is our contribution to the socio-economic development of Kazakhstan,” said the company representative Zhanar Koshpanova.
